A better understanding in nutrition area will undoubtedly have huge implications in improving human health and also preventing the initiation of chronic diseases. In our laboratory, we learn about how nutrients take control of our body in cellular levels. We also aim to have a better understanding about gene-nutrition interaction mechanism as well as the mechanism on how nutrition can act as a healer or inducer of diseases through in vitro and in vivo experiments.

Iron is important for normal cell growth and pro-liferation including DNA synthesis. Iron deficiency can caused iron-deficient anemia which is prevalent disease among humans. We aimed to understand how cells respond to iron-deficient condition through the finding of immediate-early genes that changes its expression.
Lymphatic system works by returning interstitial fluid to the thoracic duct and then to the bloodstream. People who suffer lymphedema show fluid retention and tissue swelling in their body. Recent experiments showed that lymphedema is one of the side effects in breast cancer surgery. We find out that the elevation of serum ApoE and FN1 increase the risk of lymphedema in Korean breast cancer survivors.
